The last few years of my mother's life was spent in a nursing home where we both battled the challenges of her dementia. While most days she was unable to speak or "connect, she always responded to the power of my touch. Our visits consisted of rubbing lotion on her feet or hands, brushing her hair and hydrating her lips with gloss. If she was agitated, the power of my touch always relaxed her.
The power of touch was also evident as I sat behind a mother and child in church. I watched as the child grew more and more squirmy. Just when it seemed that literally all hell was going to break loose for the mom, she whisked a soft make up brush out of her purse and gently ran it along the child's arm and back up to his cheek and around the tip of his ear. That soothing touch relaxed mom and child. What a positive and simple solution. Go Mom!
As women, each day seems to go faster and faster. It feels like we barely have enough time to do the things we have to do let alone the things want to do. It's sad that as women we often feel guilty treating ourselves to relaxing things . At Pure Medispa, it's common to find our facial appointments arriving with a gift certificate in their hand…and 99% of the time when they leave this is what we hear, "That was so wonderful. Why don't I do that more often?"
Never under estimate the gift of touch. Touch is therapeutic. Touch says, "I care".
This Mother's Day, give the gifts that all mothers love, regardless of age…
TIME & TOUCH.
